A calendar view of photos taken September 2026

❝

I very recently learned of the superstition to utter “rabbit rabbit” on the first of the month to ensure good luck for the rest of it.

Hello, my name’s Chris Glass and I’ll believe anything if it helps.

I’m switching things up this month to accommodate travel.

Long stories short:

  • After I put off finding a new oncologist for years, it was time. The new doc looked at some concerning bloodwork numbers said, you’re fine for now, but let’s get back to monitoring with regularity.

  • We’re nearing the end of a road trip visiting a few National Parks out West. Though planned a year ago, it feels like it’s coming at a perfect time to feel immense gratitude. There has been much awe. At this end of this email you’ll find 10 unedited snapshots from the trip.

  • Tomato season went by too fast.

❝

Reframe everything you say so it’s positive. Like, instead of saying “I’m so tired” I say “ooh I can't wait to get into my cosy bed”. I’ve been doing this for over 10 years now and it’s changed EVERYTHING. I’m so genuinely happy. A few years ago I found out about neuroplasticity and discovered I’ve literally trained my brain into happiness.”

Entertainment Section:

Peaches performs on top a crowd

I wasn’t super enthusiastic about seeing Peaches, but after her performance in Cincinnati I have changed my tune. She brought together a highly entertaining show.

Dungeon Crawler Carl book cover

Dungeon Crawler Carl

I read the first Dungeon Carl book and enjoyed it enough. Now I’m listening to the audio version and enjoying it more than the printed page. Word on the street is the series keeps getting better.

Tour app with map of Glacier National Park

Guide Along

This app has audio tours triggered by geo-location and it elevates road trips. They’ve got tours for lots of destinations around the world, and they are worth every penny. (Thx HBM!)

A collection of places surfed throughout September with brief notations

What If We Just Stopped?
Dan Sinker has a short essay about the malaise of social media from both sides: sharing and absorbing. It's a total emotional poo-fest and high time we find ways to subvert it all.

Enjoy Every Sandwich
Warren Zevon shared insights of life and death on Letterman. Twenty-four years later Brad Montague has a notion of what it really meant.

Und im Sommer tu ich malen
Hank Schmidt in der Beek went to the Alps to paint along with photographer Fabian Schubert. The result was a series of art collected in this book, and it is all just so dang fabulous.

The adorable plush datacenter toy that emits an ear piercing hum when squeezed
I was already smitten by the headline, but to find it's a promotion for a new Big Data album was a cherry on top.

Steve Albini worked with Cheap Trick on a re-recording of ‘In Color’
My favorite rabbit holes on the internet inspire thought beyond the topic at hand. I mostly just know "I Want You to Want Me" from this album, but now I'm spinning the old and new versions, thinking about how I'd polish past work. (And by past work I mean 30 years ago and yesterday.)

Jason Carne Font Bundle
Jason Carne is a lettering artist in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, with work that spans gamuts and eras. He's bundled up every font he's released for a song and I keep thinking about it. I usually buy type for a specific reason in mind, but perhaps this type could inspire reasons.

Bamboo Porcelain Mug
I very much appreciate when dishes stack well. These mugs stack magnificently (and are priced beyond daily use).

The textile art of Fiona Robertson
Fawning over these embroidered landscapes that combine machine and hand stitching — particularly those with bright autumn foliage (scroll down the gallery for those), but they're all lovely.

Apple Music Hall
A new state-of-the-art(s) space in London that looks dreamy from both sides of the audience. Also? A touch of Barbican vibes.

Speaking of the Barbican, Kim Deal performed at this brutalist wonderland with full orchestration and the recording is coming out in November. Here’s a trailer for the live album.

MADE ✕ Barbican
This new collection of home goods and furniture from British retailer MADE is nice, despite a typographical misstep in the header. (It's easy to type a X instead of using an × — I'm guilty. I have to look up how to copy and paste the latter every time.)

The Spice Drawer
Jason Kottke, author of a wonderful website, recently made the leap to explore the world untethered. This involved sorting through all the things that keep one anchored, and the spice drawer gave him pause. His reflection stirred emotions. I routinely consider the lineage of things around the kitchen — gifts from my mom, partner's mom, sister, brother, and friends — so many items I can trace to them, and every time I pause in gratitude.

Thems the breaks
A compendium of break dancing moves I cannot do because my knees hurt.

In the world
Mandy Brown's thoughts honoring the life of Nevan Scott has stopped me in my tracks more than once. Particularly the passage about the etymology of mundane, but also everything else. A powerful reflection on connection, an evolving world, and remarkable human.

Across the Downs to West Sussex
Simon Collison captured a lovely weekend and now I'm adding things to my bucket list and learning more about the work and life of Hélio Oiticica.

Pixel Area
I find great joy in exploring other personal websites and here's a patchwork of them coming together. I placed my pixel over here and lucked out with a smiley icon. / via Gordon McLean

Modern Day Typographer
The latest typeface-inspired video from Elle Cordova adds music to the mix and is deserving of every accolade.

Wahclella Falls
My few trips to Oregon have never included this hike to Wahclella Falls. Making note for future opportunities.

Fordite or Detroit Agate
Layers of automotive paint collect at factories and form these colorful artifacts, showing the changing spectrum of car palettes. As seen in this fabulous up-cycled necklace in a Threads comment.

The Whale
A new museum opening in June of 2027 in Andenes, Norway is dedicated to the whales and their habitats. Designed by Danish Architect Studio Dorte Mandrup, it grows from the landscape to resemble a whale's tail breaking the water ("fluking").

AmperSands
Dave Morris makes ampersands on beaches and they're lovely. (His wife makes rainbows, also lovely.)

Véloroute Gourmande
Wendy sent this Instagram reel of a 235 kilometers bike trail across Quebec with accommodations and 130+ foodie stops along the way. Let's just look at the categories of those stops: Restaurants, Microbreweries, Coffee shops, Bakeries, Chocolate / Ice Cream, Wineries, and Orchards. This is heaven, here on Earth, and totally saved to the bucket list.

The Peace of Wild Things
A poem written and read by Wendell Berry, animated for On Being's “Poetry Films” series.

On repeat:

Meat Loaf Dippers
Bon Iver made a catchy jingle for Howard's in Stillwater (Minnesota), and Nick Stokes animated it up real nice.

Howards animation of happy people

10 unedited shots from the road trip

This trip is still in progress and I’m somewhat concerned how long it will take to sort through all the photos.

Driving through golden hued hills in Wyoming

From Bozeman, MT to Lander, WY through windshield that needs cleaning

A pup looks up eagerly at the camera

Daisy greeted us at our first stop

Lattice dough on a rhubarb pie

There was homemade rhubarb pie

This place is lousy with Buffalo

Steam escapes from a rust and brown hued cone at the side of a river

I feel a kinship with Yellowstone as I too, am gassy

Grand Prismatic Spring

Casey grabbed this shot of me as we checked into Glacier National Park. (I keep saying OH MY GOD a lot.)

*hat tip

That’s it for now. See you in a month.
